The Best Winter Activities in the Pocono Mountains

October 01, 2024
Walking through the snow

1. Skiing & Snowboarding

One of the most popular activities in the Poconos during the winter is skiing and snowboarding! We have great local places to catch the chairlift like CamelbackJack Frost and Blue Mountain. There are slopes for all skill levels at these mountains to accommodate any ability and lessons available as well. The view from the chairlift at Camelback over the snowy mountain is one you won’t want to miss!

2. Snow Tubing

Snow tubing in the Poconos is a fun way to hit the slopes with zero experience required! Camelback Resort has over 40 lanes for snow tubing and was recently ranked one of the top spots in America to snow tube. Good thing it’s less than a 10-minute drive from The Swiftwater! Snowtubing is available during the day or on select nights. Join the winter fun as you slide down the mountain on a snow tube!

3. Winter Hiking

The crunch of leaves, the softness of snow, and the quiet of a winter hike. The ambiance of exploring one of our many trails in winter is breathtaking. One of our favorite winter hikes is at Promised Land State Park! It has a variety of trails, a frozen lake and so much more. Promised Land State Park is also a great spot for ice skating and cross-country skiing.

4. Ice Skating

If the conditions are right, enjoy ice skating on one of our natural rinks at Promised Land State Park or Lake Wallenpaupack. Gliding across the ice is a magical experience. Looking for a little more action on the ice?  Check out Wally Ice Fest a two-day event full of ice hockey fun.

5. Snowshoeing & Cross-Country Skiing

The beauty of winter, the quiet of a snow-covered trail. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing on one of our many trails is a winter delight that should not be missed. Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is a great spot to enjoy a cross-country skiing adventure. Venture up to Promised Land State Park for unforgettable snowshoeing. Another great spot to explore on snowshoe or cross-country skis is the Delaware Water Gap.

6. Winter Festivals

Winter is at its finest at one of our local winter festivals! Ice carvings, live music, cozy fires, and even sleigh rides through the snow. Jim Thorpe offers a Winterfest with fun for all ages. Winter festivals in the Poconos let you celebrate the season with beautiful snow-covered landscapes and small-town fun!

7. Après-Ski & Fine Dining

After a day of winter fun, dispel the chill by taking a dip in our year-round indoor/outdoor saltwater pool heated to 90 degrees year-round! If you’re in a plunge pool suite, you can enjoy this ensuite in your room as well. A spirit or crafted cocktail can also help you warm up at The Olivet. Enjoy their seasonal fine dining menu for apres-ski dining, sure to warm the spirits and cap off a lovely snow fun filled day in the Poconos!
